The Gulf Coast Corridor Improvement Project (Project) Includes a Series of Infrastructure Improvements in the Rail Corridor from New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal to the Port of Mobile That Will Support Intercity Passenger Rail Service in the Gulf Coast Region, Where Passenger Rail Service Has Been Absent Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Amtrak, the Southern Rail Commission, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway, and the Alabama State Port Authority and the States of Mississippi and Louisiana Will Collaborate on the Project Development (Pe, Nepa, Fd, and C) to Lengthen Sidings, Install New Switches and Turnouts, Construct Additional Crossovers, and Improve Stations, Yards, and Grade Crossings.
