Description

The Purpose of This Award Is to Address Significant Train Interference Delays That Amtrak and Norfolk Southern (Ns) Experience Along One of the Most Congested Ncrr-Owned Corridor Segments in North Carolina, While Also Providing Capacity to Support a Sixth Passenger Rail Frequency and Meet Anticipated Growth in Freight Rail Traffic. The Planned Improvements Include Eight (8) Components Consisting of Siding Extension, Curve Improvements, Rail Replacement, and a Bridge Repair or Replacement Study and Clearance Study on the Ncrr Corridor, Consisting of the Mainline (Charlotte to Greensboro), NC-Line (Greensboro to Goldsboro), and Ec-Line (Goldsboro to Morehead City). The Planned Improvements Will Provide a More Efficient Rail Network That Delivers More Reliable Service Through Fewer Train Delays and Mainline Track Maintenance Closures, as Well as More Capacity to Grow Passenger and Freight Operations. Deliverables for This Project Include Various Final Nepa Documents, Pe Design Packages, FD Design Packages, and Planning Studies. The Beneficiaries of the Project Are Ncrr, Amtrak, Ns, as Well as Freight Customers and Passengers. There Is No Proposed Subrecipient.
