This Application for Federal Assistance Secures Wildlife Restoration (Aka Pittman-Robertson) Funding Over a Five-Year Period (April 1, 2022 - March 31, 2027) to Support Numerous Activities Needed to Help Fulfill the Bureau of Wildlife's Mission. The Grant Describes a Comprehensive Program for the Conservation and Management of the Full Suite of Birds and Mammals That Occur in New York State. Activities Include Coordination, Planning, Technical Guidance, Outreach, Surveys, Research and Active Species Management to Meet the Conservation Needs of Both Game and "Non-Game" (Non-Harvested) Species. We Will Conduct and Administer These Activities as a Single Grant (W-173-G) Divided Into Two Projects: Game Species Management and Conservation of Bird and Mammal Diversity. The Game Management Project Addresses Policy, Planning, Research, Survey, and Management for New York's Suite of Game Species, Organized by Taxonomic Groups: Big Game (White-Tailed Deer, Black Bear, Moose); Furbearers and Small Game Mammals (Beaver, Otter, Muskrat, Bobcat, Fisher, Marten, Coyote, Red and Gray Fox, Raccoon, Skunk, Rabbit, Hare, Squirrels); Migratory Game Birds (Waterfowl, Woodcock, Snipe, Rails, Doves, Crows); and Upland Game Birds (Wild Turkey, Ruffed Grouse, Pheasant, Quail). IT Also Includes Technical Guidance to Prevent or Address Conflicts Between People and Game Birds and Game Mammals and Monitoring and Management of Non-Native Invasive Species That Negatively Impact Native Species and Their Habitats. The Bird and Mammal Diversity Project Addresses Policy, Planning, Research, Survey, and Management for New York's Suite of Non-Game Birds and Mammals, Including At-Risk and Listed Species. Completion of These Projects Will Result in a Better Understanding of Bird and Mammal Populations and Help Guide Appropriate Actions to Conserve These Resources. They Will Also Help to Prevent the Future Listing of Species as Endangered or Threatened and Active Management of Rare or Threatened Species and Species Assemblages Will Aid the Recovery of Populations to Sustainable Levels.
